Lavender for Sleep
Its tried and true. Lavender (Lavandula Angustifolia) is a wonderful companion for helping the body to unwind and relax, and at night, to go to sleep. Lavender helps to lower the sympathetic nervous system, which stimulates the body, and increases the parasympathetic nervous system, which relaxes the body. This explains why is such a great essential oil for helping to reduce stress.
There is a warning though, only use 1 or 2 drops, as too much Lavender can be stimulating.
How I like to use Lavender to go to sleep:
- A shared drop on my temples,
- Under my nose,
- Back of my neck, or
- 1 drop on a tissue and tucked into my pillow.
- Rub 1-2 drops into the soles of my feet.
- Add 4 – 8 drops of Lavender in my diffuser and run at night. (Its great in the diffuser combined with Roman Chamomile and or Cedarwood)
Ever person is individual and unique, and every day is a different day, so Lavender doesn’t always work to unwind me at night. Sometimes I have to cycle through a few different oils to get the right one for that day.
